My POV by Brian A. Wilson
Inspiration from the NFL and Beyond
Thanks to everyone who has emailed me with questions, kudos and comments about my column. I appreciate your taking the time to write.
Speaking of time, I have precious little of it this week; I'm heavy into writing segments for a new reality pilot that looks to go with NBC. More on that later.
For now, some inspiring words from folks in diverse fields. Nonetheless, their sentiments seem to apply to the writer's life.
"I think the edge is not being afraid of the situation. It should never cross your mind that it can't be done." John Elway, former Denver Broncos quarterback
"All growth is a leap in the dark, a spontaneous, unpremeditated act without the benefit of experience." Henry Miller, playwright
"I really think it just comes down to being mentally tough. If things don't go well early for you, you've go to keep going, keep throwing the ball, keep doing what you do best, and things will usually come around." Dan Marino, former Miami Dolphins QB
"After the final no there comes a yes, and on that yes, the future world depends." Wallace Stevens, poet
"The first thing to remember is that your mind can really affect your ability to perform. It's almost a serene, purist state of mind you get in when you're competing with full, ultimate confidence, poise, self-assurance, and preparation. I think the mind set is what an athlete needs in order to be at his best, whether he finishes first or last, to be able to perform without an y negative connotations to your thoughts." Bill Walsh, NFL Hall of Fame coach
"Do not fear death so much, but rather the inadequate life." Bertolt Brecht, poet and playwright
