My Suggestion o' the Week is that you check out Sherwood Oaks Experimental College. They're at www.sherwoodoakscollege.com
The "experimental college" is really a virtual college, sprung from the mind of Gary Shusett. Gary's main claim to fame is that he knows everyone who is anyone in Hollywood, and isn't afraid to ask them to attend one of his events. Due to his persistence, most do. The list is endless over the years: Sylvester Stallone, Jim Cameron, Robert Rodat, James L. Brooks-an endless stream of writers, directors, producers, agents, managers and lawyers.
The best part of Sherwood Oaks? Gary makes all his attendees very accessible. Usually they'll talk for a short time, then "students" get to mingle and talk with the guests one-on-one. This is invaluable for building relationships, the foundation for a writer's career in Hollywood.
Lately, Sherwood has been emphasizing week-long events. If that's too much for your time or budget, keep an eye on their schedule, or try to get in their (somewhat erratic) mailing list. Gary puts together lots of valuable weekend events as well; out of his last two-day event with agents and managers, I got three submissions.
