My POV Brian A. Wilson
BOOK REVIEW: Power Schmoozing: The New Etiquette for Social and Business Success by Terri Mandel, published by McGraw-Hill
Here's a book that should be standard issue to every screenwriter entering Hollywood: Computer, paper, heavy brads, McKee's book, Freeman's class, and Power Schmoozing.
On the inscription page, author Mandel wrote to me, "The goal is to not care."
By that, she means don't worry, don't sweat it so much, don't care what others think. Just go forth, be yourself, and have a good time as you meet people.
In a nutshell, that's power schmoozing.
And this book is packed with advice that us wallflower screenwriters need to hear and heed.
She discusses our fears of social situations, why we have them, and how to overcome them. She talks about dealing with problem situations, talking to celebrities and overcoming intimidation.
In short, she talks about what we all need to know about, if we're going to sell ourselves and our wares in Hollywood.
Cover price is $12.95. It's available on Amazon for $10.59, which is dirt cheap for all the advice Mandell packs into this offering.
Go on. Get it. Don't be shy.
Keep writing.
