My POV Brian A. Wilson
DON'T JUST SIT THERE WRITING, DO SOMETHING ELSE
People are on the move in LA. It's spring, and the animals are coming out of Sundance hibernation.
You should, too.
Mix it up a little this week. Take two of the following as your assignment and call me in the morning:
--Go to lunch with a fellow writer. Talk about something besides the biz.
--Take a day and see all the best-picture nominees.
--Take another couple days and see all the Oscar writing nominees.
--Take still another day and see all the WGA award nominees.
If this seems like a lot of time spent watching movies, and not doing "real" work, don't forget-this IS your job.
--Use your writing skills to help your country. Write to your congress person or someone in the administration, expressing your views.
--Write a letter to the editor of your favorite paper. You'll feel good, and it's good practice making your point.
--Take a course.
--Go see a play instead of a movie. How would you adapt it to the screen?
--Invite some friends to an Oscar party.
--Volunteer. For something. Someplace. Nothing gives you focus like seeing someone else's world, as my very wise wife says.
--Make a follow-up phone call.
--Start that next script. Today.
And of course,
Keep writing. BW LA transtexan@hotmail.com
