How to Produce Movies for Television

"I've found that luck is quite predictable. If you want more luck,
take more chances. Be more active. Show up more often."

-- Brian Tracy

Gearing Up

Are you ready to take more chances? Brian Tracy is right. It's all about showing up and staying in the game. The players change and so do the rules. Stay flexible and always remain openminded. At the end of the day, what really counts are the results.

Making Things Happen

Be motivated. Whatever it is that you do, always strive to do it well. If you write, keep writing and coming up with new ideas. Demonstrate that you have an original voice.
If you act, let the world be your stage. Observe everyone and everything. Capture the rhythms of speech and movement. If you direct, study the masters. They are the true poets with a camera. Their talent lies in the ability to define the human condition.

Laughter and Tears

The films which last speak with eloquence to the wide range of human emotions and feeling. Make them laugh and make them cry. Audiences want to be moved and to come away with a new experience. Give them hope and a reason to survive all of life's ups and downs. Most people work at jobs that leave them wanting for something more.
Their lives are filled with quiet desperation. It's your obligation and responsibility to awaken in them a new awareness and appreciation for life.

The Golden Rule for Successful Filmmaking

Good ideas are not in themselves the answer. The world is filled with people who have good intentions. It's all in the execution of the idea that makes the difference between emerging as a new voice to be reckoned with or staying behind after class as just another also-ran. Be unique. Listen to who you really are and share your vision. The audience is waiting to hear from you. Don't disappoint them...or yourself..

Stay Focused

Perseverance is your strong suit. Never let the doomsayers dissuade you from reaching your goals. Always remember that you're in control. It begins and ends with you. While it's important to listen to and respect people who really know their stuff, nobody knows better than you do what you're all about and capable of doing.

Make a daily list of goals that you want to achieve. For example, if you work full time but are determined to write a novel, do a little arithmetic:

Write one page a day....get up an hour earlier before you leave for work to spend time writing for a solid hour. When you return home after work, rewrite your one-page for another hour. Do this exercise faithfully for 365 days and you'll have a full blown novel.

One Life to Live

Sounds like a good title for a soap...it was and it still is a good title. The title is also a role model to pattern your goals after. Unless you believe in reincarnation or the after-life (and we do happen to believe that there's something to all of that), in actuality, the here and now is what counts in the real world.

So live your life one day at a time and live it to the fullest...with no regrets. Stay focused and openminded. Always hold fast to the belief that the best is yet to come.

"It's not your blue blood, your pedigree or your college degree. It's what you do with your life that counts."

-- Millard Fuller
