DON'T TALK ABOUT IT - WRITE IT
Over the years I have attended several seminars and conferences. I have made many friends at these events and I try to keep in touch with them. One night over drinks in the hotel bar a guy told me all about a script he was planning to write. He had spoken to a few panelists at the seminar and they had encouraging things to say. Over time we exchanged Christmas cards and occassional phone calls. Each year he told me he was still planning to write his script. And at each seminar since (there have been many) he has found a willing audience to listen to his script over drinks in the bar. The problem is he has never written the script. He has scenes and the story and the characters he just doesn't have any motivation. And believe me writing a script takes motivation with a capital W that stands for WRITE. I think he has talked himself out. The story and its characters no longer hold any interest or mystery to him. It's sort of like watching the same film dozens of times, it becomes tedious and boring. I don't expect to see him at any more conferences in the future. Last time we talked he told me he planned to stay home this year and write. I'll miss seeing him at the bar, but I'll raise my glass and offer a toast to his success. |
