THE "R" WORD - REJECTION
In an interview with Lawrence Kasdan he told the reporter that his film project THE BODYGUARD was rejected 62 times. The project at one time was slated to star Steve McQueen 17 years before it was actually produced with Kevin Costner and Whitney Houston. There are countless stories about diligent writers and the mounds of rejection notices they stacked up before their stories went on to win awards and find an audience. This, as they say, is the nature of the beast. I regard rejections in the same way I regard mosquito bites, sure they're uncomfortable, they leave a welt and a sore itchy spot, BUT that doesn't keep me from going outside. Find a way to shrug off rejections. Don't let one "No" keep you from seeking the "YES." And don't take it personally. Move on to the next name on your list. Make sure you aren't sending a crime thriller to a producer known for light hearted comedy. If and when that 'sorry pass for us' rejection letter comes your way, remember Lawrence Kasdan got 62 of them. |
