TERRORISM - DO YOU TRY TO CASH IN OR WAIT IT OUT?
I happen to have a story about terrorism that rings more true today than when I began pitching it several months ago. I think it's a great story about heroes. And the bad guys are shown as having a point. Too often terrorists are villians with one mission to incite the hero into action. The movies like terrorists as either madmen or mercenary with twisted political beliefs. Boobs or baffoons. I don't think this is the case. I do believe the are zealots, as convinced of their righteous behavior as we are convinced they are wrong. And two wrongs don't make anything right. In my story the good guys catch the bad guys, no war, no military action, no bombs, just an arrest and American justice. The way it was meant to be, an arrest and a trial. But the producers I have sent this story to are running scared. The Nation is still too raw, we are still mourning and grieving and trying to mend. No one wants to look to deeply into the motives of people who would choose to die and kill for their misguided mindset of violence and death as a political statement. And maybe that's as it should be for now. Because they are madmen and zealots, but make no mistake, we will be seeing them at the cinemaplex soon. |
