The Script Gremlin
Paul Buscemi's Column for Monday July 30, 2001. Buscemiarts@hotmail.com
Recently, a script Gremlin ransacked one of my screenplays. Nasty little buggers. Has that ever happened to you? You know, they get in there and mix up words, drop or add letters. I'm going to have to fumigate my script shelves. Maybe even the whole office.
It all started when this one screenplay of mine started making the rounds. I got some good interest on it and people even began to talk about "meetings." All great stuff of course...until the Gremlin got in the house. I have my suspicions. I think Little-Script let this Gremlin in. LS has been so surly lately. This totally sounds like his doing.
So in preparation for these "meetings," I wanted to re-read some of my work. Now, keep in mind, I have read this stuff over myself several times previously. Several other reading experts have meticulously gone over my work as well and I fixed any mistakes. So I'm certain this script was in perfect order. It had to be a Gremlin! I read this one script and within it's once perfect 120 pages....I found six typos! Six! I was so annoyed. Some of them, most readers will never even notice. However, for me they leap off the page like they have blinking neon around them.
You tell me, is that not the work of a Gremlin?
I suppose it's okay. The script seems to be moving up the ladder regardless of the Gremlin's dirty work. As soon as I get this office fumigated I'm going back and fixing those typos! Oh, and I'll have quite a talk with old Little-Script too.
