"The Top Ten."

Paul Buscemi's Column for Monday October 29th, 2001. Buscemiarts@hotmail.com

Just 10 weeks left in the "year" (this column chronicles one year of a writer's career launching life). At this time I want to look back at the 10 most useful stops I made these past 42 weeks.

1. Flash Forward Institute: "Launching the Future" weekend.

This weekend event was my first stop in a serious pursuit of a writing career. I attended the weekend last December and chronicled the experience in my January 22 column. I highly recommend the event. You can learn more about Flash Forward in that column and their website: www.flashforwardinstitute.com.

2. Spec Script Marketplace.

This is a fantastic place to pitch your work to some of Hollywood's notable production companies. I profiled the Marketplace in my July 9th column.

3. The Producer's Office.

What better way to know what Hollywood producers are looking for, than by asking them? Several columns have done just that and every "stop" by a producer's office has provided essential data. Producer Ross Bell has contributed great information for all writers, in three separate columns; April 16, June 25th & October 8th. Ryan Johnson has also guided us through the development process in the March 19th column. TV producer and writer, Josh Berman gave great insight for television spec script writing in the February 19th column.

4. The Writer-Director's office

In the March 5th column, Jeff Probst chronicled the story of his first feature as writer-director and talked about the importance of rewriting. His comments on rewriting are inspiring. Check it out.

The rest of the top ten....next week.
