"Seconds Pounding Like Thunder."

Paul Buscemi's Column for Monday november 19, 2001. Buscemiarts@hotmail.com

It's so hard to concentrate with that crashing sound all around me. Can you hear it? It's like thunder just above your head. A huge rumble that shakes the walls around you.

That is to say, it's the clock on the wall. The calendar next to it. The watch on my wrist. My palm pilot. The seconds, minutes, hours and days are ticking away and I can't escape their thunderous presence (and then lack there of).

I have 42 days to complete my goal of a career launch in 2001. Less than a month and a half. A mere 6 weeks. And that's counting on someone being in his or her office the week of Christmas! Ha! Maybe now you can hear that thundering second hand as it pounds it's way around my wrist?

When I look back to the end of August or the beginning of September, I see I was right on track. Although the year had been filled with great advances, I had made one mistake. Pursuing screenwriting and television writing at the same time. I wised up quick and focused solely on the screenwriting. Something I wished I would have done in the beginning of the year. But no matter, it was the dawn of September and everything was just fine.

And then, like everyone else, my heart was ripped out and I stood there....speechless.
As the world changes, I reaffirmed my commitment to the types of stories I will tell. Things would change for Paul, the person and for the screenplay I had started before 9-11. My schedule for completion would be pushed back and that quiet second hand would grow louder as the days wore on.

This is not to say, I don't have a plan here. I do. The next two weeks are critical. Time will tell...Stay tuned.
