"Seconds Pounding Like Turkey."
Paul Buscemi's Column for Monday november 26, 2001.
Continuing with last week's column on my "writer's ticking clock" situation. My current screenplay is supposed to be finalized in a week. Last week, I thought I would be reporting that I am halfway toward that goal. Of course, if I'd actually opened a calendar last week, and realized it was Thanksgiving on that Thursday - I may have planned my schedule a little better. (I realized Thanksgiving was two days away last Tuesday. File that in the "dork" drawer.)
I blame Palm Inc. You see, unlike paper calendars, which alert you to holidays, Palm calendars do not. So when I mapped out my week on last Sunday, I had no idea Thursday was a holiday weekend and twenty people would be showing up on my doorstep all wanting a drumstick.
Okay, so now I have a calendar right in front of my face, on my desk here. I occasionally look up from my Palm Pilot and contemplate what that "thing" with all the boxes and numbers and names of months is. Oh, Christmas is on the 25th this year - better make note of that.
No great advice or instruction here. No list of tips for any writer to utilize. No professionally insight, shortcuts or methods you can apply to your own writing. Just one writer treading water in a sea of screenwriters, who unequivocally, found himself, last week, in the Twilight Zone. In short, next week is the acid test of a screenwriter's life. Stay tuned..... |
