Listen up, folks. I have something important to say. People pay good money for this kind of information, so you better pay attention.
I know the secret to success.
Really. No bull. No boloney. No sh*t. Success not only as a screenwriter, but in life.
The law of Karma.
Be generous.
As a person. As a screenwriter. Be generous with your time and your knowledge. If you do this, only good will come out of it. Trust me on this one.
Critique other people's work out of your own time. Share some of the books that are collecting dust on your shelf. Help people when they ask.
Believe me, the rewards will be great. I don't know how the system works. Unfortunately, God didn't give us a manual.
However, I do know that almost every successful person (some of whom I have had the pleasure of knowing personally) is very generous with his/her time, knowledge, and money.
And the rewards will start coming in - share.
Again, for those who are sight-impaired.
SHARE.
Give ten percent of your earnings to me.
What?!
Just kidding.
Seriously though, I know that working screenwriters already have a lot of overhead, with agents, managers, attorneys, WGA fees, etc. Not to mention Uncle Sam. Even though, somehow, some way, it will all come back to you tenfold if you give away ten percent of what you earn - to the needy. Not the chick that works at Kinko's, clear?
To prove my point, I have three books here on screenwriting that I will give away to the first three who request them. The books are:
LEW HUNTERS SCREENWRITING 434 By Lew Hunter (Duh!) HOW TO NOT WRITE A SCREENPLAY By Denny Martin Flinn FOUR SCREENPLAYS By Syd Field
But, the condition is that after you read them (within a month), you must give the book to another screenwriter in need with the same conditions.
Trust me when I say that you will be rewarded.
The law of Karma never fails. |
