Things not to do at the next screenwriting conference:
Don't go with the hopes of finding an agent.
Don't stand in a long line after a panel discussion in order to ask a certain agent or producer to read your screenplay.
Don't take a bunch of scripts with you.
Don't ask a question you already know the answer to in the hopes that you will get a better response.
Don't go if all you want is to get paid to be a screenwriter.
Don't be lame and hang out like a groupie hoping you can talk to that certain somebody.
Things you should do at the next screenwriting conference:
Meet other screenwriters. Be friendly. Exchange knowledge and ideas. Get contact information. Follow up and stay in touch.
Be creative when it comes to your scripts. Write your log line, title, and phone number on business cards. If the opportunity presents itself, hand the card to that certain person at the end of the conversation. If they're interested in the concept, they'll call you.
Do go with the intention of learning more about the craft and business of screenwriting.
Do go if you just love to write no matter what. |
