Writers shouldn't depend soley on agents to market their material. If you can get an agent, by all means use his services. If you can't obtain one or your agent is doing an ineffective job, send out your owm material to production companies yourself. The first thing you need is an excellent letter of introduction. The letter should be 3-4 paragraphs on letterhead and should never exceed 1 page total. The first paragraph should have the name of the person who referred you, if you have a referral. If you don't, write that you are a screenwriter who would like to submit material for consideration to this company. Also include any relevant writing sales, accomplishments or awards that you've won. The next paragraph should include 3-4 loglines of material you'd like to send them. Include the title, genre and the logline for each. The last paragraph should mention that you're willing to sign a release form if required, (provided that you are comfortable doing that.)
