No matter what you do for a living, whether you are a craft person or a laborer, always strive to be perfect at what you do. Why? Because there are ten other people out there who can and will do your job better than you. So why in the world would you want to let some other idiot take away your job? Then again, maybe you are the idiot, for not pushing yourself harder.
Look at it this way, ever notice that when a person starts a new job, for the first week or two that person is very enthusiastic, anxious to please, and usually on time, if not early for work everyday? Then, as time goes by, the person starts to show up late, miss days, get into bad moods on the job, and generally just work at a much slower pace than before.
I'm sure you all have recognized this kind of worker. They're everywhere. But every so once in a while, a worker shows up who defies the odds, someone out of the ordinary. This person shows up for work everyday on time, is never moody, and always gives two hundred percent no matter what. This person continues to work this way for months, if not years; never complaining as he or she works, and always doing more than what is expected. What happens next? Sooner or later this person is manager. And then, if his work ethic continues, he becomes executive vice president, so on and so forth.
