Even professional athletes get "out of sync" on occasion. A baseball pitcher may suddenly lose command of the breaking ball. A basketball player goes cold at the foul line.
Typically, this sends them back to the basics. By focusing on fundamentals, they regain the proper technique. The problem is solved and they are back on top of their game.
The same thing can happen to writers. We find ourselves blocked. Suddenly, the resulting drafts do not reflect our best work. No matter what the genre, it can happen to the best of us.
One potential solution is a return to the basics. Instead of pressing forward into a sea of mediocrity, step back. Take time to analyze the problem in the context of the fundamentals. Often, this is all that's needed to get back in "sync". |
