Why do you write? Once in awhile it's useful to think about why you're chained to a word processor. Here are a few reasons that spur writers to write:
To take a journey into the unknown, coming out on the other side To see the world with greater clarity To exorcise demons To portray a person who fascinates you To portray the devil To make a living To sing a song or scream out loud To discover what motivates others To find fame To quench a thirst for knowledge To play God To re-invent yourself
The list goes on and on. And for each writer, the reasons are different; idiosyncratic.
You may want to think about why you're writing-especially the work at hand. Knowing why may provide greater clarity and focus.
Of course, ultimately, the bottom line is that writer's write because we can't stop ourselves. That's when you know you've crossed the line from being an amateur to become a writer who takes the work seriously.
