[BACK]
In late 2002 I began writing these columns (the word "blog" wasn't around then). Eventually you run out of things to say. Since it's getting harder and harder to generate relevant topics, it's probably time to shut it down.
"Following your bliss" is not always a blissful experience.
A writer's greatest ally is persistence in the face of overwhelming odds and constant rejection. That comes with the territory. Writers who achieve some measure of success (whether in journalism, fiction, screenplay writing or corporate media writing) develop the discipline to accept the challenge of writing daily. It's the only way to grow as a writer; the one way to learn from failure and gain greater technique.
It's a challenge because no one's holding a gun to your head to produce (at least I hope not). Writing, especially speculative writing, takes intrinsic motivation. Commitment to craft produces the necessary tools to develop your unique, idiosyncratic voice.
Having something to say comes from real life experience, imagination and a point-of-view on world events. Illuminating the myriad circumstances of mankind and womankind is the writer's noblest goal.
If you can make a living from it, so much the better. So keep on writing.
