HOW TO KNOW WHETHER YOU HAVE MS WORD,
...AND HOW TO GET A COPY IF YOU DON'T HAVE IT
You must have Microsoft Word 2000, 2002, 2003 , 2007, or 2010 running on Windows 98, ME, 2000, XP, Vista, 7.0, 8.0, or higher installed to use the Wizards for Word software or the Wizard for Students & Students Special software. If you're not sure, hold the Win key down and press "R" on the keyboard. Enter WINWORD.EXE in the box. Click Run. If you get an error message, you don't have Microsoft Office Word installed properly.
If Word starts correctly, determine the version by clicking
on Word's Help menu>About Microsoft Word.
Microsoft Word Pad, Corel WordPerfect,
StarOffice are NOT compatible.
Microsoft Works' low grade word processor
is also NOT compatible; however, some versions of
MS Works include a full version of Microsoft Office Word
(usually MS Word 2002). This version of MS Word is
acceptable. Ensure it is installed.
Microsoft Word is sold as a standalone application, as a
part of Microsoft Office, and, on some versions, as a part
of Microsoft Works.
If you need a copy of Microsoft Word, an inexpensive way
is to purchase an OEM version over the Internet. These
overstock versions are sometimes bundled with a new PC.
They come as a CD (or DVD) They don't have a box, manual, or
support. Nevertheless, they cost from $17 to $39 and
work as well as the $200+ versions.
Another source is to buy a student version. Microsoft has as $59 Ultimate version of office available for students. The Office Home and Student version (for those without the valid student ID or .edu email address) is available for $90-$125 at various retail stores.
Use a search engine like google.com, yahoo.com, or
msn.com. Search for "Microsoft Word OEM" or "Microsoft Works
OEM", or the above titles. Find the best price and ensure it's in stock. Before
you purchase Microsoft Works, ensure it has a full version
of Microsoft Word included. Not all versions have MS Word
included.
After acquiring MS Word, install it, and then install
your Wizards for Word, Wizard Cheetaah, or Wizard for Students software.
