There's no safe way to roll the dice when you're play craps.
You can blow on them, have your wife or girlfriend blow on them, shake them a certain way, talk to them before you toss them or do whatever little ritual you think might make them roll your way.
All you really can do is hope they land on the number you want.
Writing screenplays is like that. Nobody knows which script will go for a million or for scale or be rejected. If you come up with an idea that you love--I mean really love and feel strongly about--there's no guarantee that it'll be any good or that it will sell. Likewise, if you decide to try and write the crassest, most commercial goofy teen sex comedy there's no guarantee that it won't tickle the right producer's funnybone and sell for half a million and be put on the fast track.
Bottom line: come up with as many ideas as you can. Sift through them until you find one that grabs you--really grabs you whether it's soft or high concept or no concept--and write it. Don't think about whether it will sell. Just enjoy the process of writing it and thinking it through, do the best you can to make it work then send it out.
