I know that sometimes I sound paranoid and suspicious, especially of prodcuers. This is only because I've had some creepy experiences (along with some great experiences) and I have friends who've also been screwed over.
That being said, I heard a great quote recently that pretty much summed up my feelings about the matter. It has to do with dating and marriage and it goes like this:
"Keep your eyes wide open before you decide to marry someone and keep your eyes half closed after you've gotten married."
How does this apply to the movie business? Before you decide to sign with an agent or manager or do business with a producer, check him out. Feel him out. Try your damnedest to get a feel for him. If it feels right, go for it.
Then, once you're in the "marriage" so to speak, be understanding and try not to become an insecure mess.
It's really all about knowing what you're getting into. Date somebody and only see them through rose colored glasses or deny certain problems and you'll pay the price down the road. Same with that agent, manager or producer. Everybody looks and sounds good at the beginning. It's the long haul that counts. |
