It's not enough to write a terrific, salable screenplay. It's what you do with it or, more to the point, who you give it to.
If you're without an agent, but you have access to the development people are a handful of production companies, you'd better hope your contact isn't an idiot. You want someone to read your script who will get the jokes, understand the nuances, follow the story's twists and turns, appreciate that nifty twist at the end of Act Two and acknowledge what a clever ending you came up with.
That's what you want as opposed to the D-boy or D-girl who doesn't have a clue or whose frame of reference for movies is limited.
So when you're out there networking and trying to make connections, go after the smart, intelligent, hip producer or development person who will appreciate your script and your talent. |
