There's something to be said for concentrating on one project. Finishing it. Then moving on to the next. Most of us don't want to do this. We get one idea. Maybe plow through two-thirds of it, then get bored or blocked.
So we start another. Or we go back to something we've abandoned. Or we start yet another. It's very easy to find yourself in the middle of four or five storylines.
Sometimes we do this because we're anxious to finish something and get it out there. Instead of sticking with one thing and seeing it through, despite the prohlems it's presenting, we focus on something else.
I've done this. It never works. I've had to force myself to work on one thing at a time. Maybe when I've finished a draft or I'm at a solid place somewhere in the middle I'll stop to give it distance and move over to something new or old or abandoned, but I've learned to stay focused.
Completion is everything. Nobody will buy half of anything. |
