How often do you beat yourself up for not writing? Or for not writing enough? Or for not completing something? Or for not developing better work habits? Or for not being more aggressive in following up on scripts you sent out to agents, managaers or producers? Or for not entering contests because you think they're rip-offs? (I know several people with zero connections who've won or been runner-ups) Or for not going that extra mile to try and make something happen, i.e. one more rewrite or polish?
It's this kind of stuff that depresses us and makes us feel badly about ourselves.
Is there a cure? Yeah. We have to get to the self-loathing stage, then it's all uphill.
Be angry at yourself and disgusted. Beat yourself up until you've had enough.
Then, get back in the game. While you're feeling sorry for yourself, somebody else is finishing their new script. |
