Some people can't not sit at their computers and consider it a good writing day if they turn out 3 pages. They have to grind out 40 or their self-esteem dips down to gutter level.
This is binge writing. It has it's good points and bad. The good is that at least you have a bunch of pages from which to build. The bad part is that most of the binge writers I've encountered have blown their wad. They exhausted themselves churning out the 40 pages to such an extent that they've lost their passion for the story. They might be able to go forward and do anothe 40 pages, but they tend to have a resistance to doing revisions on the first 40.
They've just lost interest. And they've lost interest to such an extent that they'd rather start a new idea, grind out another 40 pages only to find themselves bored with THAT material.
Binge writing might work for some, provided they have the ability to revise and rewrite. As for me, I'll happily take 3 pages every day.
