It's surprising to me how many screenwriters are fearful of sending out their work. Are you like that?
I don't get it. You spend months. Maybe years writing your heart out on one screenplay. You've gotten the feedback. Done the rewrites and rewrites and rewrites.
And it's ready to go out.
Then you fall into panic mode. Instead of sending it to agents, managers and producers or anyone who might be able to help you, you sit on it. Or you dwell on it. You start to doubt it. You start to feel some internal pressure that it's not good enough.
Maybe you're afraid of rejection. Maybe you're afraid that somebody important will say that you script and you suck. Or maybe you're petrified that somebody will actually like it and want to represent it or buy it.
Fear of success is just as common as fear of failure.
I'm not a shrink so I won't try to give you a pep talk here, but think about this: in New York the commercials for the state lottery have the following slogan..."You gotta be in it to win it." Same goes for sending out your scripts.
If it sits in a file in your computer or in a desk drawer, you'll never get your shot |
