Now that you've figured out a way to get your main character in early enough, you need to make sure he/she is introduced in the best way possible.

Basically you want him to make a big entrance.

Whatever you have him doing when we meet him for the first time (somewhere in the first few pages) make sure that we learn something about him...preferably several things.

If he's supposed to be a tough, hard-edged loner, let's see him behaving in a tough, hard-edged, loner way. If he's a gregarious guy with a friendly smile and a humorous bent, show him that way.

The way your main character dresses can reveal a lot. Same with where he lives, what he drives, what he reads, eats and hangs out with.

If you want him to be neurotic or rife with OCD let's see him in action.

How people reading your script see your main character when he makes his first appearance sets the tone for your entire script. Have what he says and does make the character leap off the page. Make him so interesting and irresistible that agents, managers and producers can't NOT keep reading.
