Sometimes the best way to introduce your main character is to show him in the world in which he lives.
If he's a high school kid just by describing his room you can reveal a lot. If he's a stoner or metalhead he'll have certain types of posters on his walls and certain kinds of music blaring.
If he's a studious kid his room might be filled with serious books and posters of cerebral personalities from the past. And his tastes in music will be decidedly different. He might belong to the school glee club. Or the chess club. He might be president of the Student Body. He may be shy around girls.
If he's a jock he'll have sports posters. You get the idea.
Same with what your high school kid wears. Clothes can make a big statement about someone's personality. Where he lives. What his parents are like. How hip or square he is. How much of his language is peppered with pop culture references and contemporary slang.
Somebody reading your script should be able to get a sense of who your protagonist is upon the first meeting. We will, of course, continue to learn more, but it's important to have a feel for who he is from the start.
