Some people hate flashbacks. Some don't. If they're used sparingly and effectively, they can add a lot to a screenplay. If you overdo them, you'll look like a schmuck.
Don't have overlong scenes in your flashbacks. And definitely don't put a flashback within a flashback. Oh, and by the way, don't even THINK about putting a flashback within a flashback within a flashback.
Then you really like like an amateur.
Think of a flashback as the occasional device you might use to indicate something crucial to the telling of your story that you can't bring to a point in a scene that takes place in the present. |
