The experts in Hollywood say that summer is the time for blockbusters. Supposedly, they're popcorn movies or comic book flicks. They aren't all that serious or important and won't win anyone involved an academy award or even an academy award nomination.
These are the films that studios hope to make huge bucks from. The big bomb so far was The Island, which I found relatively enjoyable. Batman Begins and War of the Worlds have done well and Wedding Crashers is a huge hit.
If you aren't the kind of screenwriter who writes high concept screenplays with blockbuster potential, it's okay if you haven't seen any of these. But if you're writing the big action adventure or highly commercial comedy, then you should be checking all these films out. You should be informed on the films Hollywood is making, as well as what they're buying---which you can find out easily by checking out the script sales link here at hollywoodlitsales.
By finding out what the studios are buyng now will give you a heads up on where their thinking is. |
