Have you ever felt so lost in the middle of your screenplay that you start to feel like a tourist in someone else's story? Nothing feels or looks familiar. Characters seem disconnected from you. You have no idea where you're going or what to do.
Naturally, your first reaction is to question the validity of the idea and your reason for tackling it. Your next reaction is to seriously consider abandoning the project, but since you've already written 62 pages that just depresses you.
Frankly, I think you should. False starts are falst starts. Sometimes the energy that gets you started on a script fades or you lose the passion for your story or your character. You just don't feel like spending anymore time with him or her. Or the story just doesn't grab you anymore.
Walk away from it. Maybe not forever. Maybe you'll go back to it one day. Or you'll take part of it and use it in another script.. Maybe not.
So cut your losses and get started on the next one. |
