Naming Characters
by Howie Meibach

Industry readers read lots of material. Your job as a writer is to make life as easy as you can for them. One of the ways to do this is to differentiate character names. Similar names might force your reader to backpeddle to see who's who. This can be the kiss of death for a screenplay. It's sort of like having someone in the theater next to you chomping on popcorn. It takes you out of the moment. So instead of having a Don and a Dan you should have a Dan and a Steve. Instead of Sally and Suzy, try Sally and Kate or Kim or what about *$#&@&^?
