I'm D.B. Gilles.
I've taught Screenwriting and Comedy Writing For Television in The Undergraduate Film and Television Department at New York University's Tisch School of the Arts for more than ten years. I also taught in The Department of Dramatic Writing at NYU and in the Graduate Film Department at Columbia University. Many of my former students have gotten deals, won screenwriting competitions, sold scripts and had movies made I wrote The Screenwriter Within: How To Turn The Movie In Your Head Into A Salable Screenplay (Random House 2000) and The Portable Film School: Everything You'd Learn In Film School (Without Ever Going To Class) published (St. Martin?s Press 2005). I'm also a produced and published playwright, TV writer and screenwriter. I did the screen adaptation of the play Spinning Into Butter which will star Sarah Jessica Parker. I'm co-author of the George W. Bush parody W. The First Hundred Days: A White House Journal (Andrews McMeel 2001). I?ve also been published in The New York Times. I've learned a few things over the years as both a teacher and writer.
I'll be sharing them with you on Wednesdays.

"A master screenwriting professor who now goes beyond his New York University classroom to every screenwriting 'gotta-be,' 'wanna-be,' and film buff in the world." - Dr. Lew Hunter, Screenwriter, author of Lew Hunter's Screenwriting 434 & former chairman of UCLA's Screenwriting Department. |
